Bike- and walkingroutes
Uitgeest and Akersloot, at the nice banks of the "Alkmaarder" and "Uitgeester" lake, are a superb area for water sportsmen and nature lovers. The Recreational Council concerned has set out a charming bike- and walkingroute along the banks of the lake, the so-called "ferry-route". During this trip you make frequent use of a ferry in order to continue your voyage of discovery at the other side of the water. Around the lake are various beautiful and valuable nature-reserves.
Shops and restaurants within a 120 metres' radius. Uitgeest lies along the A9 road. Haarlem, Alkmaar and Amsterdam are at a 20 minutes' distance by car or train.
If you would like to explore the surroundings of the "Alkmaarder" lake you could visit the town of Alkmaar which you'll find at about a 10 kilometres' distance. Or you could pay a visit to the "Zaanse Schans" which is very worth visiting. Here you'll find a gathering of mills and characteristic old houses as well as the oldest Dutch grocery-shop and a wooden shoe factory and shop.
